_____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ismaning, July 4, 2024– SPORT1 kicks off the new 2024/25 TV season with a major program offensive! Sport1 GmbH has acquired numerous new docutainment formats that will be launched on free-TV from this week on. These include the formats ”Highway Cops” and “Highway Patrol”, the hit series “Neighbourhood Blues” produced for the BBC, the international hit series “Cops” as well as “Cuba Border Control”, “Latin America Dangerous Borders” and “Stop! Border Control Roma”. In addition to the new docutainment formats and the firmly established sports programming – including the German soccer Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 as well as darts – the biggest premiere of the new TV season is coming up in fall: the successful international format EXATLON will finally be launched in Germany! The globally successful sports reality format uniquely blends sports, reality and entertainment and is captivating a global audience. EXATLON, where the contestants face intense physical and strategic challenges, testing their endurance, agility and mental strength, has gained widespread appeal globally boosting the market shares of the respective broadcasters. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hot highway action and cops in action: these are the new docutainment formats on free-TV As of this week, SPORT1 is strengthening its program offering for its docutainment-affine target group with the newly licensed international hit series as part of its “Maximize Moments in Sports & Entertainment” vision. The formats will be broadcast in both the daytime and nighttime slots. Thus, SPORT1 will redesign its existing night slot accordingly from July 4 and will broadcast an attractive entertainment program with these new docutainment formats there in the future.
From Thursday, July 4, the highway police will be investigating on SPORT1: The series ”Highway Cops” starts at 01:00 a.m. in the night to Friday. When accidents occur on New Zealand’s almost 11,000 kilometers of state highways, they need to be dealt with quickly. In addition to harmless fender benders, accidents with serious injuries are not uncommon due to the geographical conditions – plenty to do for the “Highway Cops”.
The series ”Highway Patrol” which follows the exciting police investigations in the Australian state of Victoria, takes viewers Down Under.
The format “Neighbourhood Blues” – which SPORT1 is presenting as a German TV premiere – is dedicated to the enormous challenges faced by police teams in troubled communities: The series was produced for the BBC especially for daytime in order to strengthen the afternoon – with remarkable success! “Neighbourhood Blues” became the strongest program in its slot with a market share of 20 percent and has since been licensed to Sky UK. The series focuses on police operations in problem neighborhoods in the UK’s major cities, where alcohol abuse, squatting, drug and gun crime are part of the day-to-day business.
“Cops” is the mother of all police series! The reality documentary series, which has been a success since 1989, follows US police officers on their missions – whether they are chasing drug dealers, executing arrest warrants or pursuing fugitive car thieves on the highway. The US police officers have to correctly assess the risk situation at all times, otherwise danger is imminent.
SPORT1 will also broadcast the “Border Patrol” formats on TV for the first time in Germany: In “Cuba Border Control“, the focus is on the fight against cannabis transports, but also on breaking up organized human trafficking at airports or the hunt for counterfeit branded goods. “Latin America Dangerous Borders” follows the police at 15 border checkpoints in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia and Peru as they dismantle drug labs in the Amazon jungle, for example. “Stop! Border Control Roma” documents the operations of the police in the “Eternal City” – whether in the fight against drug trafficking or the destruction of mafia networks.
The TV premiere of the year on SPORT1: Launch of the successful international format EXATLON as part of the strategic cooperation with ACUNMEDYA The launch of the globally acclaimed sports reality format EXATLON this fall is an important part of the extensive content offensive as part of the strategic cooperation between ACUNMEDYA and Sport1 Medien AG. Internationally renowned and already highly successful entertainment and sports entertainment formats from the international media and entertainment company ACUNMEDYA, based in Istanbul, are to be successively brought to German TV on SPORT1. In February of this year, ACUNMEDYA and Sport1 Medien AG announced that ACUNMEDYA would become a strategic investor in SPORT1 and acquire 50.00 percent of the shares in Sport1 GmbH. The remaining 50.00 percent of the shares are held by Sport1 Medien AG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Swiss media group Highlight Communications AG. SPORT1 will present further details on the launch of EXATLON soon.
Christian Madlindl, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sport1 GmbH: “Our program offensive includes numerous successful international formats, some of which we are also presenting to our viewers in German premiere broadcasts. In addition to our existing sports offer, we are expanding our entertainment portfolio with strong docutainment programs in the daytime and nighttime slots, as already announced. And in fall, we will be launching EXATLON, one of this year’s biggest TV premieres in the German TV market – giving our audience even more to look forward to in the new TV season!”
